The Postage Stamps of the Independent State of Acre

Publisher: privately published by the author, Munich, 2004

Paperback, colour illustrated, 32 pages, slight shelfwear, spine area slightly sunned, in Good condition.

Booklet No. 2 in the series of booklets about unusual stamps which are not always accepted by philatelists or are difficult to classify. These include local and fantasy stamps, stamps of phantom states, and stamps of dubious origin of which only little is known. This booklet deals with the stamps issued by the Independent State of Acre – a remote region of Brazil’s Amazon basin bordering Peru and Bolivia. Acre declared itself independent three times between 1900 and 1903, and at least one postage stamp was produced during that turbulent period. The history of the production of the stamps and of the later special cancel are examined in detail. With many fine colour illustrations. An excellent study, full of information which would be difficult to find elsewhere.
