Burrus, Maurice

The “Burrus” Greece and Egypt

Publisher: Robson Lowe, London, 1962

Auction catalogue, paperback, illustrated in black & white, 60 pages, with a photocopy of the prices realised, in Very Good condition.

Maurice Burrus was the last and the greatest of the famous general collectors. His vast stamp collection brought him a profound knowledge of philately and many of his studies demonstrated this ability. Almost every rarity was represented in his collection and it even exceeded in size, value and specialisation, that formed by Ferrary. The dispersal of the Burrus collection took five years and seventy-five separate auctions or private treaty sales.
This Burrus catalogue features 438 lots of Greece, including a vast and magnificent array of the 1861 Paris Printing of the first issue, followed by sections of all the subsequent printings, plus later issues. The 116 lots of Egypt feature stamps and covers of the 1866 issue, the 1867-69 issue, 1872-79 issues, and later issues.
