The large number of photographs (in colour and black & white) illustrate a huge range of boxes from the well-known envelope form, Tunbridge and Mauchline Ware, to boxes produced by Tiffany and Fabergé. A superb reference book for the collector.

The 1991 reprint of the original 1911 work and the later Supplement and Addenda, with new Preface by David Beech and with British Library shelfnumbers in margins. This is the catalogue of the famous Crawford library - the most complete collection of early philatelic literature in existence. Edward Denny Bacon took ten years arranging and cataloguing the Earl of Crawford's remarkable library of some 4,500 volumes, and his labours eventually resulted in this monumental work. The "Bible" for collectors of early philatelic literature, it lists almost every book, catalogue, journal, or pamphlet relating to philately to be published anywhere in the world prior to 1908.

A "must have" book for military postal historians and particularly World War I collectors. Out-of-print and scarce.
