No. 38 of a limited edition of 650 copies (although it is understood that a substantial part of the print run was destroyed, thus the book is far scarcer than indicated by the stated print run). Foreword by Asa Briggs. Well illustrated including numerous colour plates. A huge work in two volumes. With much detail on Rowland Hill's reforms and the introduction of the first adhesive postage stamps. Out of print.
